Sunday School

Our dynamic program for PK-5th graders meet at 10:30 AM during the worship service. Our children start their morning in worship with the adults, singing hymns, saying prayers and listening to a children’s sermon by the pastor. After the children’s sermon, they are dismissed to their classes.
We use a workshop rotation curriculum called PowerXpress, which makes Bible stories come to life through art, music, science, cooking, games, storytelling and technology. Our adult workshop leaders provide the materials and basic instructions, and the children take off into their own sensory learning experiences. Each class ends with a music session.
This year’s curriculum schedule is as follows:

October – Out of Egypt (The Story of Moses, Part I)
November – Into the Promised Land (The Story of Moses, Part II)
December – Journey to Bethlehem/Christmas Pageant practice
NO SUNDAY SCHOOL ON 12/27 OR 1/3
January – How the Bible Came to Be
February – The Lord’s Supper
March – Easter People
April – Paul
May – Pentecost
May 31st and June 6th – Preparation for Children & Youth Sunday
June 13th – Children & Youth Sunday (children conduct the 10:30 worship servive)

During the summer, we do not have curriculum based Sunday school classes; rather, we hold “activity time” during the adult worship service which includes a story that teaches a moral lesson and offers a variety of craft projects. In September, we kick off our Sunday school year with a party and other “get-to-know one another” activities.

Sunday School News & Notes

This month’s theme is “The Lord’s Supper;” the focus Scripture verse is Luke 22:19, “Do this in memory of me.”  Through a variety of activities, children will be learning how Jesus gave us the Lord’s Supper as a way to remember him and all that he taught and lived for.  Time with children during morning worship, which is co-led by Doug Clark and Serena Wiltshire, will continue this same theme.  On February 28 during worship, children will share with the congregation what they have been learning.
