Music

Music is part of the bedrock of our congregational worship together.  In recent years, Cleveland Park Church's half-century-old organ was nearing the end of its useful life, and the congregation decided - as part of the Gift of Tomorrow Campaign launched in 2004 - to replace it with a new instrument hand built for our specific setting.  After much investigation of options, we were excited to sign a contract with Patrick J. Murphy and Associates of Stowe, PA for the construction of a new organ (16 ranks, 1,000 pipes).   This beautiful instrument, with glowing oak casing, will be installed starting in September 2006, and should be operational by the end of October.  It will be placed in the front center of the chancel area, which has been enhanced to provide a much more open and usable space for worship, musical events, youth programs and other ceremonies.

The Murphy organ will be the first of its mark in this part of the mid-Atlantic.  Every week it will boost the church's expanding music program and provide a strong foundation for the adult and children's choirs, a future youth choir and our congregation's inspired singing. It is also a resource that we can share with the community.  It will be attractive to organ students and for formal recitals and weddings, and should appeal powerfully to instrumental groups seeking a high quality organ for their performances.
